When Using Variable Names as Part of Log File Name in Oracle GlassFish Server 3.1.1, the Data is Written to Wrong File (Doc ID 1377269.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 18, 2011

Applies to:

Oracle GlassFish Server - Version: 3.1.1 to 3.1.1 - Release: 3.1 to 3.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On a GlassFish instance, modify the logging.properties so that it uses a variable name as part of the log file name:

com.sun.enterprise.server.logging.GFFileHandler.file=${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/logs/${com.sun.aas.instanceName}.log

When the instance is started you will notice the first few seconds data is logged to the server.log file. Then logging is sent to the appropriate <instancename>.log file, as you would expect.

Note: This issue does not apply to the DAS server instance.
