Standalone Reports Server Name Larger Than 30 Characters Cannot Be Started Up (Doc ID 1382731.1)

Last updated on JULY 11, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Reports Developer - Version 11.1 to 11.1.1.3.0 [Release 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The default Reports Server configured out of the box fails to come up when the installation finishes:

## oraInstall2011-11-23_05-22-11PM.out

Executing Task: Executing: opmnctl startproc ias-component=<RptSvr_name_larger_than_30_characters>
...
opmnctl startproc: starting opmn managed processes...
opmn id=<hostname>:6701
0 of 1 processes started.

Error
--> Process (index=1,uid=733152822,pid=3784)
failed to start a managed process after the maximum retry limit
Log:
OI\diagnostics\logs\ReportsServerComponent\<RptSvr_name_larger_than_30_characters>\console~<RptSvr_name_larger_than_30_characters>~1.log

If a new reports server is created with a shorter name, it works fine. In some other 11g versions, the name is cutted to less than 30 characters.

Changes

Brand new installation. Testing the in-process and standalone created out of the box install.
