The Redirect SAF Functionality has Changed in Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server 4.0.17
(Doc ID 1387900.1)

Applies to:Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server - Version 4.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
For releases of the iPlanet Web Proxy Server prior to 4.0.17, a redirect Server Application Function (SAF), would redirect ANY request for "/" (ie. "/anything/after/the/slash") to the specified server. But iPlanet Web Proxy Server 4.0.17 ONLY redirects requests for "/", and nothing after the slash.
For example, with the following line in the iPlanet Web Proxy server's obj.conf file,
the iPlanet Web Proxy Server 4.0.17 only seems to redirect requests for "/". For everything else, a HTTP status 403 is returned.
Here is an example from the logs:
<IP> - - [09/Dec/2011:09:19:00 -0500] "GET /index.html HTTP/1.1" 302 - - - -
<IP> - - [09/Dec/2011:10:15:56 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 302 - - - -
<IP> - - [09/Dec/2011:10:16:05 -0500] "GET /xxxx/index.html HTTP/1.1" 403 - -
Here is an example from the logs of prior iPlanet Proxy Server 4.0.17:
<IP> - - [14/Mar/2012:17:23:31 -0700] "GET /xxxx/index.html HTTP/1.1" 302 - -
