Symptoms

After an upgrade from Directory server 7 to 11gR1, server does not start. When attempting to start server, the server goes through the database recovery process but does not seem to start successfully after several attempts.

Server unresponsive and then when attempting to restart the server, the server crashes with the following errors:

[20/Nov/2011:08:56:29 -0600] - Sun-Directory-Server/11.1.1.5.0 B2011.0517.2158 (64-bit) starting up
[20/Nov/2011:08:56:30 -0600] - WARNING<20488> - Backend Database - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Detected Disorderly Shutdown last time Directory Server was running, recovering database.
[20/Nov/2011:08:56:35 -0600] - Database recovery is 0% complete.
[20/Nov/2011:08:56:35 -0600] - Database recovery is 100% complete.
[20/Nov/2011:08:56:37 -0600] - WARNING<20805> - Backend Database - conn=-1 op=0 msgId=-1 - search is not indexed base='cn=changelog' filter='(replicationcsn>=4ec8ebba000000000000)' scope='sub'
[20/Nov/2011:09:11:26 -0600] - Sun-Directory-Server/11.1.1.5.0 B2011.0517.2158 (64-bit) starting up
[20/Nov/2011:09:11:27 -0600] - WARNING<20488> - Backend Database - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Detected Disorderly Shutdown last time Directory Server was running, recovering database.


The server continues to crash with the same errors each time a server start is attempted.
