Glassfish Server - 'asadmin install-node' Fails With Error 'Remote command output: bash: jar: command not found' (Doc ID 1446173.1)

Symptoms

Using Glassfish (GF) 3.1.1 on a Unix system, having installed the GF software on the Domain Administration Server (DAS), the installation of subsequent nodes using 'asadmin install-node' fails with the following message:

Remote command output: bash: jar: command not found

ssh connectivity between the DAS and the node appears to be fine, and the user's $PATH appears to include the JDK binaries directory where the 'jar' utility is located.

The problem has been seen on Linux, but there is no reason to think it will not affect other environments.
