Oracle HTTP Server Fails to Start with Error "Invalid command 'RewriteRule', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration" (Doc ID 1447604.1)

Symptoms

Oracle HTTP Server fails to start with "Invalid command 'RewriteRule', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration" errors similar to the following:

/app/product/10.1.3.5/OracleAS_1/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd
Syntax error on line 1073 of /app/product/10.1.3.5/OracleAS_1/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'RewriteRule', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

 

Changes

Add following line the ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf as below in order to configure reverse proxy between DMZ and APEX Oracle Server.

Backend Server (Where Apex is installed) ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf


Listen 8001
NameVirtualHost <backend server IP ADDRESS>:8001
<VirtualHost <backend server IP ADDRESS>:8001>
DocumentRoot /u00/SOA/Apache/Apache/htdocs # Set to the Document root of the server
ServerName frontendserver.com
