Applies to:

Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86 (32-bit)

Goal

The behavior of a Java version that was corrupted during installation, is undetermined or undocumented.

The symptoms are varied, such as a hang or core dump when running 'java -version,' problems with softlinks missing or permissions issues, etc.

This proposed solution ensures that a corrupt Java installation is fully removed before attempting to re-install a package based JDK on Solaris.

The steps below are for Java SE 6.0, but can be applied to any version of Java and its Installation Guide.
