ODSEE - Attribute Containing DN Link is Deleted Instead of Updated When DN of Linked Object is Modified (Doc ID 1452526.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 29, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Some attributes are configured by the schema to have a DN value which links or points to another entry in the Directory server.
In this example the "manager" attribute on a normal user object and the "direct reports" attribute on the manager user object.

When referential integrity is configured, if the DN of the source object is modified by either renaming the object or moving it to a different OU in the Directory Server, the attribute containing the DN link is removed (value deleted).

Question: When an object is renamed or moved the behavior expected is that the configured DN attributes on other objects that point to the renamed or moved object will be updated with the new DN automatically, but in this case the DN attributes are not updated, instead the value is deleted. Why?
