Invalid User/Password Error with Data Source when Password is Case Sensitive

Goal
What is the reason for getting the below error when using managed data source with connection pooling:
Unable to establish connection to "<DATASOURCE_NAME>". Error message: Exception occurred testing managed data source connection. Exception: 'java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied '.
The following can be seen in the log file when a user has tried to access an application based on this data source:
