Purpose

GoldenGate Initial Load: Loading Data with an Oracle GoldenGate Direct Load.

The document discusses the method of performing an initial-load with an Oracle GoldenGate Direct Load, the necessary parameters to be configured for the GoldenGate processes, and it provides reference to tutorials/examples and additional caveats and known issues.

This document should be read in conjunction with Document 1311707.1 Primary Note for Oracle GoldenGate: Initial Load Techniques

Also, refer to the Oracle GoldenGate Windows and UNIX Administrator’s Guide, chapter titled Running an initial data load, for detailed information on all initial load methods.

Scope

The note is intended for new implementations of GoldenGate where the source data needs to be instantiated on the target database in order to replicate the data using GoldenGate.

With initial-loads using GoldenGate Direct Load, the Extract process communicates directly across TCP/IP without the need to use a collector process or any files.

Direct Load method is process to process, hence it does not use an intermediate trail.

The Replicat process applies the data through the database engine.

This is the standard method of Initial Load. It is very flexible and a very fast way to do an initial load once it has been configured adequately and tested.

GoldenGate Direct-Load method allows additional data transformations and mappings which can be done by Extract or Replicat or both.

During the initial load, the change synchronization Extract/Replicat groups perform the extraction and apply of incremental changes that are then reconciled with the results of the load.
