OVD Unable to Create Connection to LDAP / OVD Log Error: ERROR - BackendJNDI: Connection Error: javax.naming.NamingException: LDAP response read timed out, timeout used:15000ms. (Doc ID 1476231.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Internet Directory - Version 10.1.4 and later
Oracle Virtual Directory - Version 10.1.4.3 to 11.1.1.9.0 [Release 10gR3 to 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Oracle Virtual Directory (OVD) 10g or 11g, integrated with LDAP servers such as Oracle Internet Directory (OID), Active Directory (AD), ODSEEs, etc., as backends, and with other Oracle products such as Oracle Access Manager (OAM) or Oracle Forms.

OVD is unable to create a connection to LDAP, throwing the following error in 10g vde.log:

[2012-07-12 15:35:44,467] ERROR - BackendJNDI: [#<ADAPTER_NAME>] Unable to create connection to ldap://<OID_HOSTNAME>:<PORT> as uid=<OAM_ADMIN_USER>,ou=<OU>,ou=<OU2>,o=<ORGANIZATION>,c=<COUNTRY> [WorkThread# 9]
[2012-07-12 15:35:44,467] ERROR - BackendJNDI: Connection Error: javax.naming.NamingException: LDAP response read timed out, timeout used:15000ms. [WorkThread# 9]

Or in OVD 11g diagnostic.log:

[2012-09-04T09:23:36.450-07:00] [octetstring] [WARNING] [OVD-40066] [com.octetstring.vde.backend.jndi.ConnectionHandle] [tid: xx] [ecid: <ECID>] Remote Server Failure:<OID_HOSTNAME>:<PORT>.[[
javax.naming.NamingException: LDAP response read timed out, timeout used:15000ms.; remaining name 'ou=<OU>,ou=<OU2>,o=<ORGANIZATION>,c=<COUNTRY>'

Ldapsearches against OVD adapters may work, but ODSM > Data Browser > Client View of an OVD Join Adapter returns no results.

Another symptom can be batch or large query / ldapsearch to OVD to retrieve all entries with all attributes fails to return them all; it quits at some point with a Read timeout error reported in the OVD log.
