Content Presenter Loses Display Template Intermittently

Symptoms
Content Presenter uses a custom display template.
It intermittently gets reset to the default template automatically, while there are no modifications allowed from the UI.
When the problem occurs then the custom display templates disappear from the list and only the out-of-the-box templates are present.
The workaround is to re-select the content. Then the display templates get refreshed and they can manually select the correct custom display template.
