Why is my VAM or other extract slow or hung or not checkpointing? (Doc ID 1490270.1)

Last updated on JUNE 05, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle GoldenGate - Version 11.1.1.0.25 to 11.2.1.0.3 [Release 11.1.1 to 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Identifying (though not unique) characteristics are/were that the read checkpoint was not moving, that any sends to and stops of the extract failed, and lag increased.
The definitive marker for this is that the transmem directory cannot be written to by the OGG user. Also, an ls -l of dirtmp returns no files.
For instance, the following will fail when executed by the owner of OGG.

touch ./dirtmp/junk

This will fail if the specified directory has not been created and/or if the OGG user does not have write access to the specified directory.

Changes

The directory for transmem is specified, probably in a new extract, and s transmem directory has been created
