 Prerequisites
Configure the /export/patches file system on the ZFS Storage Appliance so it is accessible via FTP and NFS
 Configuring FTP access
Configure NFS access for one or more compute nodes
Download the patch media and copy it to the shared storage location on the ZFS Storage Appliance so that it is accessible via NFS and FTP
Copy and expand the downloaded zip file so that it is available from sub-directories of the /export/patches filesystem
Backup current settings and existing software revisions for each component of the Exalogic Infrastructure
Road map of tasks undertaken during the Patch Set Update Process
Updating Exalogic Switches (NM2-GW and NM2-36P)
High Level Overview of Upgrade Tasks and Order of Application for Switches
Updating NM2-GW Switches (applicable to all system configurations)
 Overview of steps
For 1/2 and Full rack configurations (where both NM2-GW and NM2-36P switches are present):
For 1/8 and 1/4 rack configurations (where only NM2-GW switches are present):
Steps to be performed while updating each NM2-GW Switch
Prerequisite health check: Validate the current status of NM2-GW switches within your Infiniband Cluster is free from unexpected errors
Prerequisite health check: Validate the /tmp file system has sufficient free space.
Prerequisite health check: Validate the required amount of free memory is available.
Prerequisite health check: Ensure the file /conf/configvalid has an entry of 1.
Prerequisite health check: Ensure that /etc/hosts has an entry providing localhost with the 127.0.0.1 address.
Prerequisite health check: Verify GATEWAY is appropriately set in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
Prerequisite health check: Back-up the /conf/partitions.current file
Prerequisite health check: Back-up the /conf/bx.conf file
Prerequisite health check: Also backup the /var/cache/opensm/guid2lid file which will get deleted upon firmware upgrade due to a known issue:
Prerequisite health check: Use WGET to validate accessibility from the switch of the FTP location where the firmware patch has been made available.
 Updating NM2-GW Firmware.
Updating NM2-36P Switches (applicable only to 1/2 and Full rack configurations)

 ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFS_Storage_7320)
High Level Overview of Upgrade Tasks and Order of Application for ZFS Storage Appliance
Identify which of the storage heads is currently active and which is passive.
 For example:
Update software components of the currently the passive storage head
Upgrading ZFS Software from Q3.1.1 to Q3.2.1
 Configuring ZFS Storage Appliance Network
Upgrading ILOM on the ZFS Storage Head
Upgrading ZFS Software from Q3.2.1 (or higher) to 2011.1.4.0
 IPMP Service Configuration Changes
 Disabling NFSv4 Delegation
 Updating Compute Nodes
 High Level Overview
Incrementally applying Exalogic 1.x Patch Set Update (PSU) for October 2012 to a single compute node
Prerequisite Step: Ensure the /export/patches filesystem from shared storage is mounted on each of the compute nodes that has to be updated.
Prerequisite Step: Copy key update files to the compute node and confirm they have been created at the expected locations within the local file system being updated
Prerequisite Step: Check for and unmount any NFS filesystems
Navigate to the /opt/baseimage_patch/scripts directory and from within that directory execute the ebi_patch.sh script
Post Patching Step: Reboot to BIOS Settings
