Symptoms

Oracle Portal 11g has been configured according to the instructions for End to End SSL in Oracle Portal in the Portal Administration Guide. After configuration, end users frequently notice the error message 'Failure of Apache Bridge' when accessing Oracle Portal 11g. The error message in the internet browser relates to the following errors in the FMW 11g log files :

Web Cache event_log :

[webcache] [ERROR:32] [WXE-11904] [security] [ecid: ] SSL handshake fails NZE-28864

Oracle HTTP Server's error log (ohs1.log) :

[OHS] [ERROR:32] [OHS-9999] [core.c] [host_id: <HOSTNAME>] [host_addr: <ID_ADDRESS>] [tid: <TID>] [user: <USERID>] [ecid: <ECID>] [rid: 0] [VirtualHost: main] FAILOVER_REQUIRED [line 592 of ap_proxy.cpp]: Service Unavailable
