VMWare Exhausting System Memory When WebLogic Server Running (Doc ID 1501095.1)

Last updated on JUNE 10, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a system running WebLogic Server in a VMWare environment emulating Windows Server 2008 R2, as soon as the WebLogic Server process is started, the available system memory is exhausted, reaching 90% of total available RAM memory.

Increasing the System Memory didn't resolve the problem, as again the system memory would reach 90% of total available RAM Memory.

The Windows TaskManager shows that the WLS process is using only memory allocated for the heap by the -Xmx and MaxPermSize arguments. However, total physical RAM usage would increase up to 90% as soon as the WLS process is started.
