OpenSSO cannot email lockout notification (Doc ID 1501281.1)

Symptoms

OpenSSO allow us to configure a Password reset service. This is we allow users to reset their passwords after answering some of the questions an OpenSSO administrator has established.

When the user answer correctly the questions  the new password is generated and emailed to the user.

If nothing else is done apart from configuring the Password reset service as Chapter 13 of the OpenSSO guide instruct us http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19316-01/820-3885/adslb/index.html users won't receive any email and will see the following errors in our OpenSSO logs:

ERROR: cannot email lockout notification:token
com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 501 <Identity-Server>: sender address must contain a domain

       at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.issueSendCommand(SMTPTransport.java:1829)
       at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.mailFrom(SMTPTransport.java:1368)
       at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendMessage(SMTPTransport.java:886)
