Java processes fail when run on a Solaris non-global zone (NGZ) if the number of CPUs is set to a variable amount starting with one (1). The configuration means that for the Solaris NGZ a variable number of cpus is available. It may dynamically float between the given boundaries. Example: zonecfg command executed as root from the global zone gives
