Can We Delete Files from the Vault to Save Space? (Doc ID 1504198.1)

Goal

Customer has noticed that they are running low on disk space on their systems. In their particular implementation, once the documents have been checked into Webcenter Content and converted to PDF they are never checked out or amended in any way.
Having monitored disk usage,  one of the directories with the largest amount of space used is the vault directory, which is the location where the native files are stored.

The weblayout directory is the location of where the converted PDF files are stored, and customer knows that they are not able to delete anything from here.

The customer was wondering if there would be any impact if they were to delete some of the older files in the vault directory.
