Thumbnails Profile Picture aren't in Sync Between Connections (Doc ID 1506878.1)

Symptoms

Create several users and upload profile photos.  Create connections between the users so that the profile photos are displayed.
Make a note of which photos are displayed.
Take a look at the activity stream and also make a note of which thumbnails are displayed.  
Modify the the profile photo for a user and check connection thumbnails and activity stream thumbnails.

When on the Profile view, if a user uploads a new profile photo the thumbnail updates properly.  The problem is that the thumbnail may not show properly when viewed on other screens like the Activity Stream.
