Interpreting HTTP3068 Error receiving request or Connection refused for Oracle iPlanet Web/Proxy Server (Doc ID 1512012.1)

Symptoms

 There are a variety of different specific messages relating to HTTP3068 in the error log that can occur.  SSL issues may look like:

[20/Mar/2011:09:55:05] failure (<PID>): HTTP3068: Error receiving request from <IP ADDRESS> (Connection refused)
[20/Mar/2011:09:55:08] failure (<PID>): HTTP3068: Error receiving request from <IP ADDRESS> (Connection refused)
[20/Mar/2011:09:55:11] failure (<PID>): HTTP3068: Error receiving request from <IP ADDRESS> (Connection refused)

 Certificate related issues may look like:

[07/Feb/2011:10:52:42] failure (<PID>): HTTP3068: Error receiving request from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (SSL_ERROR_CERTIFICATE_UNKNOWN_ALERT: Client had some unspecified issue with the certificate it received.)

          or

[20/Dec/2010:03:42:09] failure (<PID>): HTTP3068: Error receiving request from x.x.x.x (SSL_ERROR_UNKNOWN_CA_ALERT: Unknown CA)
