Goldengate Director Admin Fails Creating Datasource With EJB Exception (Doc ID 1519844.1)

Symptoms

Oracle GoldenGate Director v11.2.1.0.0

When trying to create a datasource with Director Admin Client, the following error is returned:
 
(note--tried fully qualified name as well as IP address)

 Connection check failed:

RemoteException - EJB Exception: ; nested exception is: java.lang.NullPointerException
 
Also, please see the following errors captured in the ggserr.log when trying to create a connection to the datasource:

2012-12-07 14:30:45  INFO    OGG-00975  Oracle GoldenGate Manager for Oracle, mgr.prm:  No Dynamic Ports Available.
2012-12-07 14:30:47  INFO    OGG-00963  Oracle GoldenGate Manager for Oracle, mgr.prm:  Command received from GUI on host <Host> (START GGSCI ).
2012-12-07 14:30:47  INFO    OGG-00975  Oracle GoldenGate Manager for Oracle, mgr.prm:  No Dynamic Ports Available.

Following errors in debug logs

DEBUG 2012-12-13 10:16:00,226 [<host>:<port>] Connecting to manager at <host>:<port> To get dynamic ggsci server port.
ERROR 2012-12-13 10:16:00,227 [<host>:<port>] Error retrieving dynamic port from <host>  on <port>: Connection refused
