Running Patch Set Assistant For Standalone Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 1 Fails With Error "WAS_HOME is not an identifier" on Solaris (Doc ID 1529684.1)

Oracle Fusion Middleware - Version 11.1.1.2.0 and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
This has been seen when patching to 11.1.1.6.
It is possible it occurs with other patchset versions.

Symptoms

After using the Patchset Installer to patch a Standalone Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 1 Oracle Home to a later patchset release, running Patch Set Assistant (PSA) fails on Solaris with:

Standalone meaning the Oracle Home/Oracle Instance is not associated with a WebLogic Server (WLS) Middleware Home or Domain.
In Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 1 this is possible with Oracle Internet Directory (OID) and Oracle Virtual Directory (OVD)
