Unable to Upload Images to Wiki Pages via IE

Symptoms
Unable to upload images in Wiki (by clicking on embed image icon in the RTE menu) via Internet Explorer 8 or 9.
After the files are selected to upload, the "Upload" button never gets enabled to complete the upload task.
Browser (IE8 only) reports errors when the (yellow) "error" icon in the status bar is double clicked. IE9 reports no such error in the status bar.
