HTTP-500 Internal Server Error During OIF 10g Login And Error "javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException: .... socket closed;" in OIF Log (Doc ID 1541031.1)

In an environment where Oracle Identity Federation (OIF) 10g (10.1.4.x) has been configured to serve application authentication requests for Single Sign-On (SSO) between other federated sites, users sometimes get a 500 Internal Server Error when trying to log in.

The OIF federation-error.log reports something similar to the following when the problem occurs:


There is a firewall between OIF and the LDAP server where the User/Federation records are stored.
