OID 11g Replication Stopped Working / After Rebuilding The Problem Replica, remtool -paddnode Hangs After The "Enter replica type" Selection

Symptoms
Oracle Internet Directory (OID) 11g, i.e., 11.1.1.6.0.
OID replication to one node stopped working suddenly.
Rebuilt the replica, but now remtool -paddnode just hangs after entering '3' (LDAP multimaster replica) for "Enter replica type" selection, and it is not able to properly connect to new node.
The following is seen in the OID server log (oidldapd01s<pid>-0000.log) file:
