With Database Leasing Server Migration WebLogic Servers Part Of Cluster Restarting Intermittently With Unable Renew Lease Errors (Doc ID 1550164.1)

Last updated on MAY 18, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3.4 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In WebLogic domain with Cluster of Multiple Managed Servers with Server Migration Enabled with Database leasing, issue of Managed Servers restarting intermittently with lease renewal errors is observed.

Oracle RAC with multiple RAC DB nodes is the backend Leasing database. From WebLogic side Leasing datasource which is configured is of type Gridlink datasource (or) Multidatasource which connects to backend Oracle RAC DB nodes. WebLogic servers part of Cluster which has Server migration enabled connect to Oracle RAC DB nodes via leasing gridlink datasource/Multidatasource for renewing the lease.

There were no misconfigurations with respect to Server Migration or Leasing datasource which would have caused the issue.

Below is snippet of message observed in WebLogic server stdout file at the time of intermittent restart. The message says that server is unable to connect to database for renewing the lease.

JDBC Connection, Server Migation and JDBC Driver Debug flags were enabled. From JDBC Connection and JDBC Driver debug flags there was no indication that connection to backend DB was failing. We were able to see connections successful to backend DB.
