Purpose
Starting with the release of Java SE 7 update 10, Oracle added new security dialogs to the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). These new dialogs are displayed only when accessing the JRE through a web browser; either as Java applets or as Java Web Start applications launched through the browser. They are not shown when launching applications through the command line, for applications that embed the JRE, or when launching Java Web Start applications that the user has cached in their system.
If a user has only JRE versions below 7 update 10 these warnings will not be shown.
The new dialogs can be grouped into two categories:
-
Messages for running sandbox applications
-
Message to prevent launching a JRE that has fallen below the security baseline
Scope
Java developers and Java users of Java applets and Java Web Start applications.
