Symptoms

You tried to start the Flight Recorder tool on one of your processes by selecting the menu item labelled "Start Flight Recording...", but you get an error dialog with the title of "Unable to Access Flight Recorder".

Example from JDK 7u21 on Ubuntu 12.04 on a local process:
