Using "mail" Attribute for Login, JPS Tracing Shows "ObjectNotFoundException: No User found matching the criteria" (Doc ID 1556366.1)

Symptoms

Using mail attribute for active directory login, user group membership not showing up on profile pages. Login succeeds, but JPS provider cannot locate groups.

AD authenticator provider settings in WebLogic set to the following. The user-name-attribute is set to mail, meaning the users will login using their email address:

<wls:user-from-name-filter>(&amp;(mail=%u)(objectclass=user))</wls:user-from-name-filter>
<wls:all-users-filter>(objectclass=user)</wls:all-users-filter>

The jps-config.xml file was also set to use the mail attribute for filtering group lookups.
