Statement.cancel() Leaks Cursor on Database (Doc ID 1558622.1)

A java application uses Statement.cancel() calls to interrupt long running queries and other database operations.
Each cancel request causes a cursor to leak on the database, which can eventually lead to an ORA-01000 : maximum open cursors exceeded error.
