Error Connecting To OVD 11g Using ODSM "Invalid Credentials" "Default Chain Not Defined" (Doc ID 1559519.1)

Symptoms

Attempting to log into OVD with ODSM results in "Invalid Credentials"

ldapbind to OVD with same credentials is successful

ldapbind -h <OVD_HOSTNAME> -p <OVD_PORT> -D cn=orcladmin -w <PASSWORD>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            bind successful

Errors in OVD log are as follows:
[2013-06-04T15:42:39.640-04:00] [octetstring] [ERROR] [OVD-60060] [com.octetstring.vde.operation.BindOperation] [tid: xx] [ecid: <ECID>] An error occurred.[[
com.octetstring.vde.chain.ChainException: LDAP Error 1 : Default Chain Not Defined
