Unable to Customize Activity Stream Taskflows in Webcenter Spaces after Upgrading to 11.1.1.6 BP6 - Same IDs Appear in Taskflow Definition

Symptoms
In a WebCenter Spaces 11.1.1.6.6 environment, MDS customizations have been made to Activity Stream task flows and, as a result, the task flows are not working anymore. One such task flow is the activity-streaming-mainview taskflow.
The following error will appear in the browser when this task flow is used:
Internal Error (WCS#2013.04.23.15.41.20) If the error persists, report the problem to your administrator.
In WebCenter Spaces log files the following type of error will be reported:
oracle.mds.exception.MDSRuntimeException: MDS-00010: DuplicateRefException, In document /oracle/webcenter/activitystreaming/controller/taskflows/activity-streaming-mainview.xml there are multiple elements with the same ID _as22.
