Oracle Glassfish Server - Metro Web Service MTOM Binding Not Applied If SOAPHandler Used (Doc ID 1564925.1)

Symptoms

On GlassFish 2.1.x version and related Metro Web Services Stack 1.6.x - 2.1.x, when using Web services MTOM with SOAP HandlerChain, the MTOM attachment is replaced with an inline Base64 inside the SOAP body. There is no MTOM attachment once the HandlerChain is used. Here a simple Web Service snippet where MTOM and HandlerChain are used.

 

Changes

 Just adding a SOAP HandlerChain will cause the payload no longer apply MTOM optimizations.
