How To Configure JDeveloper to Create SQL92-Style JOIN Syntax in View Objects

By default, when creating Application Development Framework (ADF) Java Business Objects, the JDeveloper IDE creates SQL code which uses the Oracle-specific syntax for outer joins. That is, it uses the shortcut syntax "(+)" rather than the "OUTER JOIN ON..." mandated by SQL92.
Many database products do not support the Oracle-specific syntax. How can this behaviour be changed to suit databases other than Oracle's?
