OAM11gR2: Custom Plugin Execution Fails with "java.lang.NullPointerException" (Doc ID 1567252.1)

Symptoms

OAM11gR2: Execution of Custom Plugin fails with java.lang.NullPointerException. 

No error is thrown when importing the plugin nor when distributing or activating the plugin. However, when the plugin gets executed from custom auth module, you will see
messages as follows  in the oam server diagnostic log file.
