User Cannot Find People When Searching Using SES Inside Spaces (Doc ID 1579148.1)

Last updated on MARCH 20, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.7.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The People service disappears from Search Preferences as an available service after configuring SES.
This does not cause any problems until the preferences screen is saved by the user. Once the preferences screen is saved by the user by clicking on the Apply or OK button, then the People service is no longer searched.

Before saving the Preferences screen the following log entry is seen in SES:

####<TIMESTAMP> <Notice> <Stdout> <> <AdminServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <> <> <> <> <BEA-000000> <INFO [ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'                  req=Search userName=<userA> totalSearchTime=<TIME>ms userQuery=<userB>>

After saving the Preferences screen the following log entry is seen in SES:

####<TIMESTAMP> <Notice> <Stdout> <> <AdminServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <> <> <> <> <BEA-000000> <INFO [ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'                  req=Search userName=<userA> totalSearchTime=<TIME>ms userQuery=<userB> -wc_serviceId:oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.profile>

This shows that the service oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.profile is excluded from the search.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Install an out-of-the-box WebCenter Portal Spaces
  2. Check the Search Preferences and notice that there are many available services including People. You can find user profiles correctly.
  3. Configure SES
  4. Go to the Preferences screen and notice that there are a lot fewer services available, People is no longer there.
  5. Click on Cancel without saving
  6. Try to search for a user and notice that the user is found as expected.

The following log entry is seen in SES:

####<> <Notice> <Stdout> <> <AdminServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <> <> <> <> <BEA-000000> <INFO [ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'                  req=Search userName=<userA> totalSearchTime=<TIME>ms userQuery=<userB>>

7. Go back to the Search Preferences and click OK without making any changes

8. Repeat the search for the same user
and notice that the user is no longer found.

The following log entry is seen in SES:

####<> <Notice> <Stdout> <> <AdminServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <> <> <> <> <BEA-000000> <INFO [ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'                  req=Search userName=<userA> totalSearchTime=<TIME>ms userQuery=<userB> -wc_serviceId:oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.profile>
