Live Search Fails when Searching for Text Operators (e.g. And, Not, ...) (Doc ID 1580899.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 20, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.6.0 to 11.1.1.6.0 [Release 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When using Oracle Text operators like AND or OR, they work fine if they use it correctly: i.e: 'a and b'.
However, when they only enter the Oracle Text operator, i.e: 'and' into the keyword then they get the following error:

Documents (WebCenter-UCM)
Search failure: problem with execution

One workaround in WebCenter Content, is to add curly braces around the operator (for example: {AND}) this will then escape the behaviour of the Text operator.
This gets rid of the errors in WebCenter Content, but the same errors still persist in WebCenter Spaces:

UCM - Search
============
When searching without curly braces (e.g.: "and"), UCM throws shows an error message.
Using the suggested workaround with curly braces for searching stopword terms like "{and}" works. So, from the point of view of UCM, this solution is okay.

Webcenter - Live Search
=======================
In Webcenter Spaces, using the Live Search, this workaround using the curly braces does NOT work. It is still the same behavior as without curly braces.

Another problem in Webcenter is, that users do not see error message which offers some kind of useful feedback, what went wrong with he search.
