JDBC Thin or higher connections on an AIX database server using IBM JDK are very slow.
SQL*Net connections (SQl*Plus or JDBC OCI) are fast. For example, SQl*Net connections can take about 1020 milliseconds while JDBC Thin connections take 29010 milliseconds.
Remote JDBC Thin connections work fast as well.
