32-bit Java SE is Not Found on 64-bit Windows with a " 'java' is not recognized ..." Message (Doc ID 1601022.1)

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 6 and later
Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) - OS Version: 7
z*OBSOLETE: Microsoft Windows Vista x64 (64-bit)


A version of 32-bit Java SE was installed on a 64-bit Windows operating system.
The 'java' command however is not found when opening a cmd.exe shell window.

C:\> java -version
'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.


Restarting the installation gives the following message:

This software has already been installed on your
computer. Would you like to reinstall it ?

Yes     No

This shows that the software was indeed installed.



 32-bit Java SE was installed on 64-bit Windows.
