JVM Crashing/OutOfMemeoryErrors Due to Large Error Detail String (Doc ID 1619327.1)

Symptoms

The JVM crashes (JRockit) , or throws an OutOfMemoryError (hotspot). Heap dumps show that one of the variables, errdetail1 is large.

For example, if analyzing a heap dump from the server or viewing the sites.log, you may observe very large error messages usaally containing repeated/nested "Exception in doEndTag()" errors, such as the following:
