AD to OID Import Synchronization Fails with LDAP: error code 20 - Attribute displayname is single valued (Doc ID 1632228.1)

Symptoms

Import synchronization from Active Directory (AD) to Oracle Internet Directory (OID) stopped working.

DIP log file wls_ods1-diagnostic.log shows the errors below repeatedly. This is a sample for a single AD user entry:
