JDBC Does Not Handle Meta Char ">" As Expected

When retrieving XMLType data type saved as BINARY, JDBC interprets meta char ">" as ">".
When using XMLType data type saved as CLOB, ">" is not interpreted.
When retreiving XMLType data type saved as CLOB, meta char ">" is not interpreted:
This behavior does not reproduce when connecting using JDBC 22.214.171.124 to 126.96.36.199 or 188.8.131.52 databases.
