Applies to:

Information in this document applies to any platform.

On WebLogic Server, with no default web application deployed, sending a GET request for any of the following URLs produces a 404 response, as expected:
(1) https://host:port/
(2) https://host:port/not-a-context-root/
(3) https://host:port/bea_wls_internal/something-nonexistent

Sending a HEAD request for any of these is likewise expected to return an HTTP 404 status line along with suitable response headers. However, this does not work in cases (1) and (2). The WLS Managed Server instead closes the SSL connection after receiving the HEAD request, without sending any data.
