Purpose

This document provides detailed information about the Java SE Deployment Technology Support Lifetime.

Scope

Oracle customers that use or create Java SE applications meant to be accessed through a web browser, including Java WebStart, Java Plugin and Java Control Panel features.

Oracle’s Java Runtime Environment (JRE) allows launching Java Applications through the web browser or as standalone applications.  Standalone applications do not require the Java SE Deployment Technologies, so the details on this support note apply only to applications launched through a web browser and the related technologies included in Java SE.  This includes Java WebStart, Java Plugin and Java Control Panel.

Applications launched, or deployed, through a web browser are Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), Applets, or Web Start Applications.  For a detailed description of each type of application please read the Java Rich Internet Applications section of the Java Platform, Standard Edition Development Guide.
