Uploading Large Files in WebCenter Portal Using Internet Explorer Returns: Unable to upload the document (Doc ID 1914014.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to upload large files using Internet Explorer, the following error occurs.

Unable to upload the document.

 


The WC-Spaces-diagnostic.log shows the following errors:

Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: The uplaoded file exceeded the maximum allowed length.

- Issue happens only with Internet Explorer (IE8 and IE9).
- It works fine with Firefox and Chrome uploading the same file.

Steps To Reproduce:

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Set the Spaces Application timeout long enough to allow uploading long files.
  2. Connect to WebCenter Portal using Internet Explorer browser.
  3. Navigate to the Documents Page in the user Home Space or to the Documents Page in a Space/Portal.
  4. Select Upload.
  5. Click "Select Files" and select a large document for upload.
  6. Wait for the document to upload.

    You should see the "Upload" button greyed out while the document uploads.
    Note:
    The file size never changes while uploading the file.
    It just says N/A.
  7. Here you should either see one of the following results:

    The Upload button is never enabled.
    or
    You will see the Upload button being enabled.
  8. If the Upload button is enabled after click on Upload the following error is displayed:
    Unable to upload the document.
