Unable To Enable DIP Synchronization Profile. Validation fails with 'destination attribute "x" not found'

Symptoms
Trying to create a DIP synchronisation profile using Fusion Middleware EM console.
Using Active Directory (AD) as source and Oracle Internet Directory (OID) as destination.
Selecting the 'Test connection' button to confirm the connection to AD is successful.
On the Mapping Tab, when clicking on "Validate All Mapping rules" button, the error "destination attribute "x" not found" is displayed in the "validation status" column of every single attribute present in the mapping.
For example:
destination attribute 'owner' does not exist
destination attribute 'departmentnumber' does not exist
destination attribute 'uid' does not exist
destination attribute 'telephonenumber' does not exist
destination attribute 'mobile' does not exist
destination attribute 'facsimiletelephonenumber' does not exist
destination attribute 'ou' does not exist
destination attribute 'cn' does not exist
...etc...
