Oracle iPlanet Web Server Is Stuck In find-pathinfo (Doc ID 1940594.1)

Symptoms

iPlanet Web Server resides on NFS share mounted over network-attached storage (NAS) device. It is occasionally seen higher number of worker threads (session threads) that are in busy state.  Normally only around 20 or 30 worker threads are active, but sometimes we see over 200 worker threads being busy and that lasts about a few minutes and then the number goes down to normal. After a few minutes, it will go up again and this pattern repeats.

Perfdump data shows almost all the treads are in the following state:
