Introduction to Zero Downtime (ZDT) Patching for Oracle Fusion Middleware / WebLogic Server
(Doc ID 1942159.1)
Last updated on JULY 06, 2018
Oracle Fusion Middleware - Version 184.108.40.206.0 and later Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3.6 and later Information in this document applies to any platform.
The purpose of this document is to describe Zero Downtime (ZDT) patching for Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMW). Zero Downtime patching for Oracle Fusion Middleware was minimally introduced in later 11g releases (10.3.6 and 220.127.116.11+), mostly for products and applications deployed to Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS). It has not become standard for all FMW products until 12c Release 2 (12.2) with the new OPatchAuto feature.
This document is the initial introduction of the new ZDT feature. It is not the full documentation nor a substitute for a patch readme.
The introduction and concepts described within apply to all patches marked as eligible for Zero Downtime Patching in patch readme.
As more patches are released with this feature, any known issues may be searchable in My Oracle Support.
The expectation is to provide more documentation with future FMW/WLS release.
For more up-to-date information, see the OPatch documentation for your specific version where the latest 12.2.1.x release will have the most updates:
<Note 1587524.1> Using OUI NextGen OPatch 13 for Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c (12.1.2+) -- OPatch Documentation including ZDT with OPatchAuto is included within
<Note 1591487.1> Using OPatch 11.1 for Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g (11.1.1/11.1.2) -- OPatch Documentation does not include ZDT with OPatchAuto
For any release which does not include ZDT/OPatchAuto documentation, this document provides the introduction and concept to help you apply eligible patches.
