Stuck Threads on "OIMDataSource.getConnection" with "weblogic.transaction.TimedOutException" on High Load (Doc ID 1942410.1)

Symptoms

Many stuck threads are seen while OIM load is high.

Stuck threads are sleeping in this call :

  "[STUCK] ExecuteThread: TID for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'" id=ID idx=IDX tid=TID2 prio=1 alive, sleeping, native_waiting, daemon
  at java/lang/Thread.sleep(J)V(Native Method)
  at oracle/iam/platform/utils/vo/OIMDataSource.getConnection(OIMDataSource.java:67)[optimized]

Log files indicate the following exceptions in rapid sequence :

Caused by: weblogic.transaction.TimedOutException: Transaction timed out after 598 seconds

Changes

In this case, a custom prepopulate adapter had been introduced - but the same issue can be seen any time there is load on the server.
